October 16, 2021 at Catriona Jeffries Gallery, Wil Aballe Art Projects and Container Brewing.
On Saturday, October 16, we grabbed our umbrellas and slipped on our rain boots with great excitement for a guided visit to Catriona Jeffries Gallery, Wil Aballe Art Projects and Container Brewing.
We began the tour by realizing that the rain will not stop Vancouverites from having fun and starting their Saturday morning with a dose of art! About two-thirds of the group were visiting these spaces for the first time, while others were discovering new exhibitions. We were able to share two new exhibitions in Vancouver: “Unseeable” with Abbas Akhavan, Geoffrey Farmer, Rochelle Goldberg, Kapwani Kiwanga, Duane Linklater at Catriona Jeffries Gallery and “I Thik The Kracdil wil et Sme and No Bute witse sme a gin” (I think the crocodile will eat me and nobody will see me again.), a solo show by Russna Kaur at Wil Aballe Art Projects.
We finished the tour at Container Brewing where we learnt about the history of the brewery, the stories behind their beer can illustrations and where we got the chance to mingle over delicious locally-brewed beers.
This tour was very special as it marked a phase of growth for Curated Tastes. Back in September, we released a job call for art mediators to lead our art tours in Vancouver. Over 50 candidates applied with great enthusiasm. We moved forward forming a small group of art mediators specialized in different types of art forms and areas in Vancouver.
Jaclyn, did an excellent job leading her first East Strathcona Gallery Hop for Curated Tastes. She had previously led tours at Rennie Collection, worked at Art Gallery at Evergreen and at The Morris and Helen Belkin Gallery in UBC.
Our friend, photographer and local actor Alec Santos documented this special tour through a very unique and warm perspective. See for yourself below!
