September 25 at the Contemporary Art Gallery and Pendulum Gallery
On Saturday, September 25, we had the pleasure of connecting our audience with 4 leaders of Vancouver’s art scene. Matthew Hyland, executive director at The Contemporary Art Gallery guided us through Ancestor Gesture by Charlene Vickers and New Works (2021) by Faye Heavyshield.
Many of us were deeply touched (some even shared tears) by how artists Charlene Vickers and Faye Heavyshield expressed emotional healing through art. Their work was powerful. Their exhibitions invited us to have conversations about our ancestors, our pains, our traditions and our resilience.
We then took a short sunny walk to Pendulum Gallery where we were warmly greeted by Chris Keatley, Director of Pendulum Gallery, Jane Caddick, Manager of Special Events at Arts Umbrella and Kristin Lim, coordinator of Arts Umbrella. Chris gave us an overview of the gallery’s history, values, structure and operations. Jane Caddick shared her excitement about Splash, Arts Umbrella’s mayor community and financial support to their regular programming. Kristin Lim then guided us through the rich and diverse exhibition of the silent and live auction. We got to enjoy works by Scott Sueme, Russna Kaur, Annie Briard, Jean-Paul Langlois amongst others.
The tour finished with a social mingle at Faubourg Bakery where we got to get to know each other better over delicious sandwiches, viennoiseries and pastries.

The preview exhibition provides an opportunity for the public to view close to 100 one-of-a-kind artworks entirely donated by contemporary artists from Canada and abroad, including Dana Claxton, Douglas Coupland, Stan Douglas, Geoffrey Farmer, Angela Grossmann, Colleen Heslin, Tiko Kerr, Marie Khouri, Mina Totino, and Don Yeomans, in addition to works by many other notable emerging and established artists. The Splash Preview Exhibition also provides the public with an opportunity to place bids on works from this dynamic and diverse collection.
