North Vancouver Gallery Hop and Wine Tasting Tour

April 2, 2022 at CityScape Community ArtSpace, Polygon Gallery and Garden of Granite Winery.

We did our thing again this past Saturday April 2!

We went gallery hopping in the stunning North Shore with a wonderful group of curious Vancouverites. We got to enjoy the arts and wine culture in the Lower Lonsdale and Shipyards District with this tour.

Our day started with a scenic drive on the Lions Gate Bridge Road flanked by the cherry blossoms in all of their splendor. We gathered in front of CityScape Community ArtSpace, a space operated by the North Vancouver Arts council since 2001. We got to learn about the history of the organization and their important support for the nourishment of the arts in North Vancouver.

With the exhibition ‘I wanted to go on a Space Walk but I had nothing to wear’ at Cityscape, we learned and spoke about the space that women in science still need to fight for, their contribution to the development of science, and the experience of inhabiting a women’s body in the 21st century (make sure to check out our IG posts on some of the works we saw that day). Andy, the Social Engagement Manager at North Van Arts gave us a warm welcome and a guided visit of the exhibition ‘I wanted to go on a Space Walk but I had nothing to wear’ and of their rentals program.

We then walked down Lonsdale Avenue up until we reached the Foot of Lonsdale Plaza. We learnt about the industrial history and urban planning of this area, the placemaking strategies and the harmonious architecture of Polygon Gallery. With ‘Cloud Album’ at Polygon Gallery we continued the conversation about the intangibility of Outer Space, the sky, and of course clouds through the history of vernacular, artistic, and scientific photography.

The gallery hop left us all very inspired and with lots of ideas to share so we then walked through the Shipyards and along the North Shore Spirit Trail to head over to a unique ‘garagiste’ winery in North Van called Garden of Granite. Surrounded by wine barrels and good vibes, we got a private wine tasting session with our friends from Garden of Granite. Although the tour officially ended at 2pm we all stayed there until about 5pm because time flies when you’re having a great time! We even ended having tacos and beer from Cerveceria Astilleros and taking some wine bottles home, you know, for next time we gather 😉

Saturday was such a memorable day, we hope you join us at our next adventure so that you also get hooked on art while making new friends in Metro Vancouver. Below are some photos of that day taken by our very talented friends Linda Huang and Fernanda Cortez.
